Foundation Training Programme
Foundation Training Programme Directors (FTPDs) play a key role in overseeing the delivery and quality of the Foundation Programme here at LTHT. They are responsible for:
- Supporting doctors in training
- Ensuring high standards of education and supervision
- Managing trainee progression and wellbeing
- Responding to performance or patient safety concerns.
Working closely with clinical supervisors, medical education teams and regional training bodies, FTPDs help to ensure that foundation training is safe, supportive and aligned with both local service needs and national training requirements.
The Foundation Programme Training Programme Directors at LTHT are:
Dr Victor Palit – Foundation Year 1
Dr Veena Daga – Foundation Year 1
Dr John Davies – Foundation Year 1
Dr Ayisha Eltilib – Foundation Year 2
Dr Yasser Safdar – Foundation Year 2
Dr Mohit Arora – Foundation Year 2
Simulation and technology enhanced learning
Simulation is a core component of medical education in Leeds, supporting the development of a safe, skilled and adaptable clinical workforce. It provides a structured environment in which learners can practise technical and non-technical skills, develop clinical judgement, and work effectively as multidisciplinary teams, all without risk to patients. Through high-quality simulation, we aim to enhance confidence, capability and preparedness for real-world clinical practice across all stages of postgraduate training.
At Leeds Teaching Hospitals, simulation is embedded within our wider education and training strategy, reflecting our commitment to innovation, patient safety and continuous improvement. By integrating simulation into postgraduate programmes and service-based learning, we support reflective practice, promote inclusive and equitable access to training, and strengthen the link between education, workforce development and high-quality patient care across the Trust.
To help deliver this at LTHT, we have a core team of simulation enthusiasts and technicians who can help you develop simulation for your clinical areas for both education and to support learning from patient safety events.
What we can offer
- We have a range of manikins and skill trainers available to borrow. You can contact our team of Education & Simulation Technicians to enquire about loaning our equipment, or to have them support your sessions: [email protected].
- We run regular faculty development days that are part of the national programme of Becoming Simulation faculty. So, if you are interested in developing your skills as a simulation facilitator you can complete the following e-learning course by visiting the: elearning for healthcare Website.
This is an online course taking around 6 hours of modules relating to human factors designing simulation and debriefing. This is then followed by a face-to-face workshop that we deliver.
Once you complete the e-learning you are automatically put on a wating list for the local workshop but if you would like to contact us directly about the course / a place on the workshop please contact: [email protected].
Our ambition is to grow a local community of simulation facilitators who have all been trained to this standard as a way of quality assuring the training delivered across LTHT.
If you would like to get involved with simulation, have ideas of what we could deliver ro would just like support in developing a simulated event in your area please get in touch with the faculty email address above.
We have a group of technicians who support the delivery of simulation but are also developing technologies such as VR learning environments so do get in touch if this may be of interest to you.
We are also exploring the role of 3D printing in medical education.
Examples of simulation type courses that we run:
- Urology
- General surgery bootcamps
