In House Trainer faculty development sessions
A key aim of the Medical and Dental Education Department is to provide ongoing development for our trainers and educators. For those that wish to become clinical and educational supervisors then we run a regular half day introductory session that provides you with all the information you require to fulfil the role.
In addition, in 2026, we are going to run a series of monthly Trainer Faculty Development Sessions which will be monthly online drop-in events designed to support the ongoing development of trainers and educators across the Trust.
Each session focuses on a relevant theme, delivered by senior members of the Medical Education team alongside subject-specific experts, with dedicated time for open questions and discussion.
These sessions recognise the importance of continuous professional development while providing a supportive forum to raise queries, share experience and explore challenges in training. We also welcome suggestions for future topics, ensuring the programme remains responsive to the needs and priorities of our trainer community.
Regional development courses for educators and trainers
NHS England Workforce, Training and Education in Yorkshire and Humber offers a comprehensive programme of regional development courses for educators and trainers, developed in response to feedback from Clinical and Educational Supervisors.
Over the past two years, the programme has evolved from the former ES and TPD update format to provide a broader, more flexible range of courses and workshops supporting continuing professional development as an educator. These are delivered by a range of expert providers and are grouped into five key themes:
- Enhancing Leadership Skills
- Enhancing Skills for Clinical and Educational Supervisors
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Psychological Safety in the Workplace
- Improved Wellbeing for Educators and Doctors in Training.
All courses are mapped to the GMC domains for trainer recognition (aligned with the AoME educator standards), enabling educators to meet all criteria across a five-year revalidation cycle.
Courses are open to post-CCT educators within Yorkshire and Humber and provide opportunities to develop skills in supporting diverse Postgraduate Doctors in Training (PGDiTs), interactive teaching methods, leadership capability, and more.
Upcoming courses are communicated via a monthly regional newsletter, with at least 12 weeks’ notice to support study leave planning, and booking is managed through MaxCourse.
Following feedback that supervisors were not aware of these opportunities, the programme has been renamed Development Courses for Educators and Supervisors to emphasise accessibility to all trainers.
