Rheumatology conditions can affect the whole body. Whilst most conditions affect the joints, skin, spine, nails, eyes, bowels, blood vessels, muscles and vital organs (e.g. heart, kidneys, lungs), soft tissue (e.g. tendons and ligaments) can also be affected.
The majority of conditions are autoimmune diseases. This means that the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks and damages healthy tissue.
