Outpatient Services

Rheumatology outpatient services in Leeds are mostly based at Chapel Allerton Hospital (CAH). There are specialist clinics that run from St James’ University Hospital (SJUH) and Wharfedale Hospital, however.

The Rheumatology Outpatient Department at CAH has a dedicated diagnostics suite that permits following investigations:

  • Phlebotomy (blood tests)
  • MRI
  • High resolution ultrasound
  • Dual energy x-ray absorptionometry
  • Capillaroscopy
  • Needle arthroscopy
  • Gait analysis

Clinical services operate Monday-Friday, between 08:30 and 16:30. Each clinic is led by an experienced Rheumatology consultant and supported by numerous junior doctors.  Clinical Nurse Specialists provide additional support by monitoring disease activity, providing education and answering patient enquiries on the Rheumatology Advice Line (Tel: 0113 3924444).

There is also a Day Case Unit on Ward C5 (Tel: 0113 3924205) where intravenous therapies are administered.
