The Urology Surgical Care Practitioners are advanced healthcare professionals working within the specialist urology multidisciplinary team to support patients throughout the surgical pathway. Their role includes pre-operative assessment, peri-operative and intra-operative support, post-operative care, and carrying out defined procedures independently within an agreed scope of practice and level of competence.
Working closely with consultant urological surgeons, specialist nurses and theatre teams, the SCPs help deliver safe, high-quality and patient-centred care while contributing to continuity of care, service development and patient experience.
In addition to direct patient care, Urology SCPs play a pivotal role in supporting the education and development of surgical trainees. Through their continuity within surgical services, operative expertise, and close involvement in theatre and ward-based care, they enhance significantly to training opportunities, supervision, skills development, and maintaining high standards of surgical education within the urology team.
