The service provides assessment and investigation for patients referred on the Urgent Suspected Cancer (2-Week Wait) pathway for suspected prostate cancer.
Patient Pathway
Telephone assessment
- Review the referral, PSA, symptoms, medical history, and medications.
- Explain the diagnostic pathway and arrange any required investigations.
Face-to-face assessment
- Complete a clinical review, perform a digital rectal examination (DRE) if indicated.
- Assess fitness for investigations or treatment, review available results.
- Arrange further investigations (e.g. MRI or prostate biopsy) in line with local protocols.
Results and follow-up
- Discuss results with the patient
- Refer appropriate cases to the Urology MDT
- Arrange treatment, active surveillance, or discharge as appropriate.
