They provide a range of investigations including; flow tests, bladder scans, cystometry and video Urodynamics using X-rays. The main test performed is cystometry, which involves measuring pressure via a catheter within the bladder as it is being filled and when it expels urine.
This test helps to diagnose a variety of conditions including; urge urinary incontinence, stress urinary incontinence, detrusor over activity, detrusor failure, bladder outlet obstruction and dysfunctional voiding. Video urodynamics and are led by a Urology consultant (with a radiographer present) and are held on Fridays.
These investigations involve using X-rays to visualise the bladder during filling and voiding. This allows for assessment of vesico-ureteral reflux, the bladder anatomy, urethral obstruction and incontinence.
