What Will Happen
A trained staff member called a sonographer will do your scan.
They will put some warm gel on your skin.
A small handheld device will move over the area being scanned.
The scan usually takes 15-30 minutes.
How to Get Ready
Your appointment letter will tell you if you need to:
- Drink water and have a full bladder
- Avoid eating for a few hours
If it does not say anything, you do not need to do anything special.
During the Scan
You will stay awake.
You may feel gentle pressure, but it should not hurt.
You can ask questions at any time.
After the Scan
You can go home or back to your normal activities straight away.
A specialist will look at the pictures.
Your results will be sent to the doctor or clinic that referred you.
